State General Secretary Nilanjan Das shared the video of a woman, purportedly a local, who was among the victims of the Murshidabad violence that followed the Waqf Act protest.
The woman from Shamsherganj claimed to have been driven out of her home by BJP workers for her allegiance to the TMC. “Muslims did not drive us out. The BJP looted everything and ousted us from our homes…,” the homeless Hindu woman from the Shamsherganj police station area said. “There were no Muslims. The local administration has sheltered us,” she said. The woman further says in the video: “They labelled us as Muslims and attacked us as we work for the TMC.”

According to district administration sources, more than 500 people have been displaced since the unrest, reported Ei Samay. Police managed to safely return 19 people to their homes on Sunday and 49 more on Monday. Hundreds were returned on Tuesday. Jangipur Superintendent of Police said that six more families would be taken back to their homes on Wednesday. The remaining families will also be brought back very soon, the police said.
