‘Once It Happened In Godhra’: Ex-Murshidabad MP Blames Mamata Govt For Waqf Protest Violence

‘Once It Happened In Godhra’: Ex-Murshidabad MP Blames Mamata Govt For Waqf Protest Violence

Former Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary on Monday blamed the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal for the violence that unfolded in Murshidabad last week following a protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Act.

He also blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party for communal polarisation and said the Trinamool Congress was giving an opportunity to the BJP to call Muslims “jihadis”.

“We all know that the BJP will do communal polarisation. The West Bengal chief minister is doing drama, she pretends to be secular. The Bengal government is giving the BJP an opportunity to call common Muslims jihadis and who benefits from this? The TMC and the BJP benefit from this” said the former Congress MP from Murshidabad.

“I believe riots happen where the government wants,” he added.

The former Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha also referred to the 2002 Godhara riots blaming the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s government for it.

“Once it happened in Godhra because the government wanted it. It is happening in Bengal too because the government wants it…,” he added.

Three people died in the violence that broke out in Suti, Dhulian, Samserganj and Jangipur areas since Friday afternoon. At least 180 people have been arrested so far in connection with the violence and prohibitory orders under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) remain in force in the affected areas.

Adhikari said the saffron party will seek a CBI probe into the killing of a man and his son in Samserganj.

BJP MP Jyotirmay Singh Mahato wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding the imposition of AFSPA in Murshidabad and three other districts – Malda, Nadia and South 24 Parganas.

TMC Cries Conspiracy

The ruling Trinamool Congress cried conspiracy claiming the saffron party is flooding social media with fake photos and videos depicting violence in Bengal, which were actually incidents that happened in other states.

TMC general secretary Kunal Ghosh alleged that a large section of rioters had been allowed to enter Murshidabad through the India-Bangaldesh border. He also targeted the BSF saying the role of the paramilitary force is “not above suspicion” in the violence.
