Pak Army Resorts To Unprovoked Firing Along LoC For 12th Consecutive Night; Army Strikes Back

This is the 12th straight night where Pakistan Army has violated the ceasefire on the Line of Control. This happened in the areas of Kupwara, Baramulla, Rajouri, Medhar, Naushera, Sunderbani and Akhnoon in Jammu And Kashmir. 

In a statement to ANI, the Indian Army said that, “During the night of 05-06 May 2025, Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked small-arms firing from posts across the Line of Control in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani and Akhnoor in J&K. Indian Army responded in proportionate manner:” Indian Army. The situation underscores persistent tensions along the LoC, with the Indian Army maintaining readiness and restraint while asserting its right to respond.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated dramatically following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists. In the aftermath, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, a move that drew sharp retaliation from Pakistan. Within hours, Pakistan blocked its airspace to Indian carriers, closed the Wagah border crossing, suspended all bilateral trade, and warned that any attempt to divert water under the treaty would be considered an “act of war.”

Since April 24, Pakistani forces have engaged in unprovoked small-arms firing along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) every night—now entering the eleventh consecutive night of violations. These incidents have targeted multiple sectors in Jammu and Kashmir, including Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor. The Indian Army has responded in a proportionate manner, maintaining restraint while ensuring the safety of its posts and civilian areas.

This series of ceasefire violations represents a serious deterioration in bilateral relations, especially after both countries had reaffirmed their commitment to the 2003 ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021, which had led to a significant reduction in cross-border incidents. The renewed hostilities have raised concerns about broader regional stability, with both militaries now on heightened alert along the volatile border.
