Pakistan Military Kills 54 Militants In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bordering Afghanistan

The Pakistani military has killed 54 militants who were trying to cross the border from Afghanistan in one of the deadliest such killings in recent years.

The Pakistani security forces said that the militants killed in the attack were “Khwarij” — a term the country uses for the Pakistani Taliban.

The country said that the insurgents were sent by their “foreign masters” to carry out high-profile terrorist attacks inside Pakistan, Associated Press reported.

The incident occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district when the insurgents were spotted and killed near Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan.

“On night 25/26 and 26/27 April 2025, (the) movement of a large group of khwarij, who were trying to infiltrate through Pakistan-Afghanistan border, was detected by the security forces in (the) general area (of) Hassan Khel, North Waziristan District,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

“(Our) own troops effectively engaged and thwarted their attempt to infiltrate. As a result of precise and skilful engagement, all fifty-four khawarij have been sent to hell,” the statement added.

Pakistan has recently seen a surge in violence in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, mostly involving the Pakistani Taliban or the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for thwarting the infiltration attempt by the terrorists from Afghanistan. He stated that the entire nation stands with the security forces in the war against terrorism and that Pakistan’s security forces remain unwavering in their commitment to defending the country’s borders and eradicating the scourge of terrorism. The prime minister added that these successful operations demonstrate that Pakistan is winning the war against terrorism and achieving significant victories against terrorists.

On Saturday, the Pakistan military said that two soldiers were and 15 terrorists were killed in three separate engagements in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
