PM Modi Gets ‘Mithra Vibhushana’ From Sri Lanka For Efforts To Boost Bilateral Ties: WATCH

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received the Mithra Vibhushana award from Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

After receiving the award, PM Modi said, “Today, President Anura Kumara Disanayake honoured me with Sri Lanka’s prestigious ‘Mithra Vibhushana Medal.’ This is not just an honour for me, but for 1.4 billion Indians. It reflects the historic ties and deep friendship between India and Sri Lanka. I sincerely thank the President of Sri Lanka, the govt, and the people for this gesture.”

What Does The Mithra Vibhushana Medal Signify?

The medal has the motifs of Dharma Chakra, Pun Kalasa, Navarathna, and the Sun & Moon.

The “Dharma Chakra” reflects the shared Buddhist heritage that has shaped the cultural traditions of both nations.  The “Pun Kalasa” (a ceremonial pot) adorned with sheaves of rice symbolizes prosperity and renewal. 

The “Navarathna” (nine precious gems) represents the priceless and enduring friendship between the two countries, depicted within a globe encircled by pure lotus petals.  Finally, the “Sun and Moon” signify the timeless bond, stretching from the ancient past into the infinite future. Together, these elements beautifully capture the deep cultural and spiritual connection between the two nations.
