The White House on Wednesday thanked SpaceX, NASA, and Elon Musk after the stranded astronauts Sunita Williams and Barry ‘Butch’ Wilmore splashed down in the Gulf of Amercia after their unexpected extended stay in space. 

The White House also mentioned how Trump promised to rescue the NASA astronauts stranded in space for nine months, which has now been fulfilled. Trump also shared the splashdown moment of the astronauts on his social media platform Truth Social, but without writing anything about it in the caption. 

“PROMISE MADE, PROMISE KEPT: President Trump pledged to rescue the astronauts stranded in space for nine months. Today, they safely splashed down in the Gulf of America, thanks to @ElonMusk, @SpaceX, and @NASA!” White House said in a post on X.

Sunita Williams And Butch Wilmore Return To Earth After 9 Months

Four astronauts, including Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, who were stuck in the International Space Station for almost nine months, finally returned to Earth on 3:27 AM IST, Wednesday.

The two NASA astronauts, along with American astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov, made a successful splashdown off the coast of Florida aboard SpaceX Dragon Freedom.

Throughout their journey, they are said to have orbited Earth 4,576 times and covered a distance of 121 million miles (195 million kilometers) before returning to Earth.

The four-member Crew-10 aboard a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft docked with the ISS early on Sunday, where they replaced Williams and Wilmore.

“On behalf of SpaceX, welcome home,” SpaceX Mission Control in California said.To this, NASA astronaut Nick Hague, commander of the capsule replied “What a ride”.

After their splashdown, the astronauts will be taken to their crew quarters at Johnson Space Center in Houston, where they will undergo health assessments for a few days as part of the standard procedure for astronaut returning from space.

They will reunite with their families after NASA flight surgeons give them clearance.
