Uttar Pradesh continues to reel under an intense heatwave, with scorching temperatures and hot winds making it difficult for residents to step outdoors. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now brought some much-needed relief with a forecast of rain and thunderstorms in several districts starting today.
According to the IMD, weather conditions across the state will begin shifting significantly from Sunday, with showers expected in many areas through June 19. This rain spell is likely to bring down maximum temperatures by 5-7°C, offering respite from the relentless heat.
Mixed Weather Alerts: Heatwave And Rain
On June 14, the IMD issued both heatwave and rainfall alerts for different parts of the state. Western and eastern UP may experience sultry conditions with isolated heatwave-like situations during the day. However, by afternoon, many districts are expected to witness a change, with thunderstorms, gusty winds (30–40 km/h), and light to moderate rain.
From June 15 onward, the weather is set to change more dramatically, with widespread rainfall expected across the state. By June 18, most regions are likely to receive heavy showers, making for a more pleasant atmosphere.
Heatwave Still Grips Some Districts
Despite the expected rain, several districts, including Mathura, Agra, Farrukhabad, Etawah, Auraiya, Kanpur, Fatehpur, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Banda, Chitrakoot, Mahoba, Jhansi, and Lalitpur, are still under a heatwave alert today. These areas will continue to experience extreme heat during the day, though thunderstorms and rain are likely by evening.

Rain accompanied by thunder and dust storms is expected in a wide range of districts, including Saharanpur, Bijnor, Moradabad, Rampur, Sambhal, Noida, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Hathras, Firozabad, Etah, Kasganj, Badaun, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shravasti, Gonda, Sitapur, Hardoi, Shahjahanpur, Kannauj, Mainpuri, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Maharajganj, Basti, Kushinagar, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, and Deoria.
