Rohit Sharma led Team India to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 victory on March 9 (Sunday) as the Men in Blue defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the final in Dubai. India’s ICC title win marked their second in just a year, with Rohit Sharma also having led the team to the T20 World Cup triumph in 2024. Notably, amid the celebrations, fans and cricket experts speculated that Rohit might announce his ODI retirement. However, after the victory, Team India captain Rohit Sharma put all retirement speculations to rest.
Ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025, Rohit Sharma endured a challenging phase as India captain, especially after the team failed to qualify for the WTC final for the first time, following a 3-1 loss to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. With his Test future in doubt and uncertainty surrounding his ODI career, speculation about Rohit’s potential retirement has been a hot topic in recent days.
‘I’m Not Going To Retire’
However, Rohit dismissed retirement rumours, saying he has no future plans and will continue playing ODIs.
“Koi future plan ni hai. Jo chal ra hai wo chalega (There’s no future plan, things will keep on going as they are). I’m not going to retire from this format. Just to make sure that no rumours are spread moving forward,” Rohit Sharma said in the post-match conference after India’s four-wicket win over New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 final.
‘Winning Two ICC Trophies Is A Big Achievement’
Rohit also called India’s back-to-back ICC title wins a big achievement, highlighting the team’s unbeaten run and crediting their preparation and smart use of conditions in Dubai.
“Winning two ICC trophies is a big achievement for the team and to go undefeated is again icing on the cake. I’ve seen very few teams, who’ve won two back-to-back tournaments undefeated. For us it was important to prepare well after coming here (Dubai) and play what was in front of us. We used the conditions to our advantage and won the title,” said Rohit.
