Sangareddy (Telangana), Jul 3 (PTI) — As many as nine people are still missing following the explosion at Sigachi Industries’ pharmaceutical plant in Pashamylaram, which has claimed at least 38 lives and left 35 others injured. Efforts are currently underway to trace the missing individuals, Superintendent of Police (SP) Paritosh Pankaj said on Thursday.
The state government has constituted an expert committee to determine the causes and sequence of events that led to the tragic explosion. The committee is expected to visit the site on Thursday. It has been tasked with submitting a detailed report, including specific suggestions and recommendations, within a month. The panel is being headed by Dr B Venkateswar Rao, Emeritus Scientist at CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology. As reported by the News Agency, PTI.
A senior district official mentioned that some of the injured, who are receiving treatment in various hospitals, are likely to be discharged later in the day.
In response to the incident, Amit Raj Sinha, Managing Director & CEO of Sigachi Industries, denied allegations that the company had used old machinery in its operations.
Sigachi has announced a solatium of ₹1 crore each to the families of the deceased workers.
“Death toll remains at 38. Nine people are missing. But maybe today or tomorrow, once we get the reports of bones and other things from FSL (Forensic Science Lab), then things will be clear,” said SP Pankaj.
He also stated that 90 per cent of the debris from the blast site has been cleared and he is not anticipating any more bodies to be recovered. However, he added that some human remains may surface, and if they do, they will be sent for examination.
The explosion, one of the deadliest industrial accidents in the region, has raised serious concerns over safety standards and emergency response protocols.
