The Congress has sparked a debate on social media after its post said that astronaut Sunita Williams will put PM Narendra Modi’s congratulatory letter in the trash.
Williams’s father Deepak Pandya had roots in Jhulasan village of Mehsana district and she is a cousin of former minister and BJP leader Haren Pandya who was shot dead during his routine morning walk on 26 March 2003.

The party alleged that PM Modi ignored her in 2007 even though she was the most famous non-resident Gujarati back then. The party alleged that PM Modi now wanted to show the world that he cares.
Pandya was known for his strong RSS background and political influence. He had served as a cabinet minister under Keshubhai Patel and continued in office when Narendra Modi took over as Chief Minister in 2001.

PM Modi wrote a letter to Williams on March 1. “I convey to you greetings from the people of India. At a programme today, I met the noted astronaut, Mr. Mike Massimino. During the course of our conversation, your name came up and we discussed how proud we are of you and your work. Following this interaction, I could not stop myself from writing to you,” he wrote.
PM Modi said he enquired about her when he met President Donald Trump and his predecessor Joe Biden during his recent visits to the United States.
