Shubman Gill (209* off 316 balls) has etched his name into the record books with a sensational double century against England at Edgbaston, making him only the sixth Indian captain to reach the milestone in Test cricket. He joins an exclusive club that includes:

Shubman Gill has now become only the third Indian to score a double century in Test cricket on English soil, joining the elite company of Rahul Dravid and Sunil Gavaskar.

Rare Feat in Overseas Conditions

Gill’s 200-run milestone is just the second double century by an Indian captain in an overseas Test, following Virat Kohli’s 200 at North Sound in 2016.

Gill’s double hundred adds him to a rare list — only 11 double centuries by captains have ever been recorded in England, four by home captains and seven by visiting skippers. Among those, only Graeme Smith was younger than Gill when he scored twin double tons (277 and 259) during South Africa’s 2003 tour — his first coming at 22 years, 175 days.
