Ebadot Hossain has made a comeback to the Bangladesh Test team after nearly two years and was named in the 16-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in June. The right-arm pacer returns after recovering from an ACL surgery, which he underwent after an injury sustained during an ODI against Afghanistan in July 2023.
In the 2024–25 season, Ebadot played in 27 matches, including three first-class games. One of those was against the touring New Zealand A side in May. He has claimed 42 wickets in 20 Test matches so far.
The Bangladesh selectors have dropped Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Tanvir Islam, and Tanzim Hasan from the squad for the Sri Lanka series. The fast bowler Taskin Ahmed also misses out and has failed to recover in time from an ankle injury.
The wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das returns to the red-ball format after being granted a break during the home Test series against Zimbabwe in April. Meanwhile, left-arm spinner Hasan Murad has also been called up for the series.
He was previously part of the squads for tours of South Africa and the West Indies last year. Although Murad only played three first-class matches during the 2024–25 season, he spent most of the time touring with the national team during the National Cricket League.
This series marks the beginning of the 2025–27 ICC World Test Championship cycle. Bangladesh drew their recent Test series at home against Zimbabwe in April.
The Bangladesh squad is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka on June 13. The first Test will be played in Galle from June 17, followed by the second Test at the Singhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo from June 25. The tour will conclude with three ODIs and three T20Is, running until July 16.
