
A speeding car on Friday plunged into the Ganga River after breaking through the railing of the Veer Kunwar Singh Setu (Ganga Bridge) on the Bihar-Uttar Pradesh border. Police and rescue teams have rushed to the spot and an operation is underway.
The incident reportedly took place around 9:00 PM in Bihar’s Buxar. According to eyewitnesses, the SUV, which was approaching from the Uttar Pradesh side toward Bihar, was moving at a very high speed when it suddenly lost control. It then veered off the road and rammed into the bridge’s railing, before falling into the Ganga, news agency ANI reported.

Multiple police teams from Buxar Nagar Police Station, Buxar Industrial Police Station, and Ganga Bridge Police Station rushed to the scene upon receiving information about the accident. Buxar SDM and Circle Officer (CO) also arrived at the site to oversee the situation, ANI reported.
“We received information that a Scorpio broke the railing and has fallen into the water. The rescue operation has started. The locals have said that the speed of the car was high. The no. of passengers is not clear,” SHO Manoj Kumar Singh said.

As per preliminary information, the vehicle involved in the accident was registered in Dulhpur village under Simri Police Station area of Buxar district.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) had launched rescue operations along with local divers immediately after the incident was reported. However, the exact number of occupants in the car at the time of the incident is yet to be confirmed.
