Stats: Andre Russell becomes first overseas IPL player to score 1000 runs at Eden Gardens, Kolkata

The match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) witnessed an Andre Russell special where the star pace bowling all-rounder scored 57* off just 25 deliveries, showcasing his big hitting prowess in a tournament where he has not had the best of days with either bat or ball.

The innings from Russell included four boundaries and six maximums which also helped the Knight Riders propel to a score of 206 in the end. During this knock Andre Russell became the first overseas IPL player to score 1000 runs at the Eden Gardens. Andre Russell, with this innings and record, has proven why he is regarded highly and has been a legend for the franchise for 11 years. 

There have only been two players who have achieved the feat before Russell. KKR’s legendary skipper and two-time IPL winner Gautam Gambhir who has the most runs at this venue in the IPL scoring 1407 runs in 47 innings and Robin Uthappa who has scored 1159 runs in 40 innings he has played at this venue are ahead of Russell. The West Indian is currently third on the list with 1046 runs in 41 innings.

Russell’s overall IPL career

Speaking of Russell’s overall record in the tournament, he has played a total of 138 games where he scored 2613 runs at an average of 28.40 and has a phenomenal strike rate of 174.20. He has also contributed with 123 wickets which he has taken at an average of 22.82.

Russell has won the title twice with KKR in 2014 and 2024. In 2024, he gave crucial contributions with both bat and ball scoring 222 runs at a strike rate of 185 and taking 19 wickets as well. He is the third-highest run-getter for the franchise and the second-highest wicket-taker as well.
