T20 World Cup 2026: ‘Abhishek Sharma has been discharged from hospital’ – Tilak Varma provides massive update on star batter’s health

T20 World Cup 2026: ‘Abhishek Sharma has been discharged from hospital’ – Tilak Varma provides massive update on star batter’s health

Tilak Varma informed during the pre-match press conference that Abhishek Sharma has been discharged from the hospital. This should come as music to the ears of Indian fans as the opening batter is a vital cog in India’s T20 setup.

Abhishek was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday due to a stomach bug. However, on the eve of India’s clash against Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the Punjab batter has rejoined the team and will look to regain match fitness soon.

“He went to the hospital for an examination. He has been discharged. Hopefully he’ll be okay for the game. He has one more day to recover; he should be fine,” Tilak was quoted as saying by RevSportz.

Jasprit Bumrah wasn’t part of the playing XI which took part in India’s opening fixture of the T20 World Cup against the USA. Tilak asserted that the star pacer is absolutely fine and very likely to play the game against Namibia.

“Bumrah should be back for the second game. He is absolutely fine; he bowled in the nets yesterday. He’s absolutely fine,” Tilak said.

The southpaw was also asked about the India–Pakistan fixture in Colombo, which is finally set to be held after Pakistan’s U-turn on boycott, and the team’s mental preparation for the game. He stated that the Men in Blue are ready to face all the teams in the competition.

“We have always been prepared for every team. We are prepared for every opposition. We only got the confirmation a couple of days ago and, when it happened, the players were excited,” he added.

There is always someone who steps up and plays a good innings, which is a very good sign: Tilak Varma

Tilak also offered his two cents on India’s batting collapse on a tricky surface at the Wankhede Stadium in the game against the USA. He praised Suryakumar Yadav, who scored a match-winning half-century, and said that someone or the other always steps up when there is pressure on the team.

“To be honest, I started off well in Mumbai, so I thought the wicket was good, but it wasn’t. I was in flow and the ball was coming on to the bat nicely, but I was the only exception in that case. When others saw me play, they thought the wicket was okay,” Tilak said.

“We were late in making the right assessment, but Suryakumar Yadav played a masterclass. We’ve seen that lately – there is always someone who steps up and plays a good innings, which is a very good sign,” he added.
