‘Thumka Lagao Nahi Toh Suspend…’: Tej Pratap Asks Cop To Dance, BJP-JD(U) Cite ‘Jungle Raj’

A video of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav instructing police personnel to dance during a Holi celebration at his residence in Patna on Saturday has gone viral, triggering sharp criticism from the ruling NDA parties. In the video, Tej Pratap Yadav is heard telling a policeman, “Ae Sipahi, ek gana bajayenge usme tumko thumka lagana hai. Bura na mano Holi hai. Thumka lagao nahi toh suspend kar diye jaoge” (Hey, policeman, a song will be played, and you have to dance. Don’t mind, it’s Holi. Dance or you will be suspended).

Moments later, the former Minister of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change begins singing, and the policeman joins in, raising his hands and seemingly dancing.

The incident has drawn sharp reactions from the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, who accused RJD of continuing its “jungle raj” culture.

JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad remarked, “‘Jungle raj’ has ended, but Lalu Yadav’s prince is threatening a policeman about the consequences if he does not follow his instructions to dance. Bihar has now changed. Be it Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav, or any of Lalu Yadav’s family members—they need to understand that such acts have no place in the environment of this changing Bihar.”

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also criticised the incident, stating, “Like father, like son. First, the father—when he was Chief Minister—made law dance to his tunes and turned Bihar into a jungle raj. Now, the son, despite being out of power, is attempting to do the same through threats and pressure. He threatens police personnel with suspension if they do not dance. This is proof that RJD believes in jungle raj…”

“If they return to power even by mistake, they would violate the law and make law protectors dance. This is just a trailer; it is important to keep them away from power,” he remarked.

BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain stressed that Tej Pratap has no right to suspend the cop. He said, “… He asked his bodyguard to dance; otherwise, he would suspend him. He has no power and authority to suspend anyone. This is Nitish Kumar’s government, not Jungle Raj… Using such a language is unfortunate. RJD leaders have not evolved…”

Tej Pratap Yadav’s ‘Scooty Ride’ Without Helmet, Asks: ‘Kahan Hain Paltu Chacha’

Meanwhile, another video of Tej Pratap Yadav surfaced on Saturday, in which he was seen riding a scooter without a helmet, looking for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, whom he referred to as “Paltu Chacha”. “Kahan hain paltu chacha (Where is paltu chacha),” Tej Pratap remarked. His supporters, also without helmets, followed him on motorbikes, chanting “Tej Pratap Bhaiya Zindabad”.

The video also showed clear traffic violations, with some bikes carrying three passengers and even a police personnel seen without a helmet.

Reacting to the video, BJP spokesperson Kuntal Krishna slammed Tej Pratap Yadav, saying, “Tej Pratap Yadav is acting in accordance with RJD’s culture. When his parents ruled Bihar with misgovernance and jungle raj, they used to make security personnel sing, officers apply tobacco for them. Tej Pratap has forgotten that his parents are no longer in power. Now, Bihar has the BJP and Nitish Kumar’s government.”
