[Twitter Reactions] IPL 2025: Rohit Sharma’s 81-run knock powers MI to ascendancy in Eliminator

Rohit Sharma led the way with the bat for Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians at the Mullanpur Cricket Stadium. Rohit was dismissed after scoring 81 off 50 deliveries on the fourth ball of the 17th over, but he had more than done what was expected from a seasoned pro like him.

With MI at 65/0, Jonny Bairstow was the aggressor of the opening duo. A six and two fours off Sai Kishore’s first and the powerplay’s last injected much-needed impetus into his innings. The former MI skipper brought up his fifty off just 28 deliveries on the first ball of the 10th over. Rohit had already got to 56 at the end of the 10-over mark.

Two fours and as many sixes from that point onwards ensured Rohit entered the 80s with more than enough time for him to get to his third ton in IPL history, his second in back-to-back seasons. However, it was not meant to be after Prasidh Krishna ended up beating Rohit for lack of pace. Rohit’s swipe across the line was caught by Rashid Khan at midwicket. The delivery was bowled at just 96 kph.

Interestingly, Rohit has had a quiet, underwhelming track record when it comes to playoffs. In the 21 innings he has batted in playoffs before the ongoing one, Rohit could muster only 316 runs at a dreadfully flat strike rate and average of 108.96 and 15.80, respectively. This particular innings of his was one of the main reasons behind MI getting to a mammoth 228/5 at the end of their 20-over quota.
