Two commandos from the Central Reserve Police Force’s elite CoBRA 209 battalion were injured on Thursday morning after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated during an ongoing anti-Naxal operation in Jharkhand’s Saranda forest, authorities confirmed.
The blast occurred around 11 a.m. in the Mankey region near Jaraikela, deep within the dense Saranda jungles—often regarded as one of Asia’s thickest forest belts. The troops were conducting a combing operation in the area when the explosion took place, a senior police official said.
Both personnel sustained splinter injuries in the blast. Despite the remote location, quick response teams initiated an evacuation on foot to the nearest base at Digha camp. From there, the injured commandos were airlifted by helicopter to Ranchi for advanced medical treatment. Officials have reported their condition as stable.
In the aftermath of the attack, security forces have ramped up search operations across the region. The combing effort continues, with reinforcements deployed to flush out any remaining threats in the area.
