Vaibhav Suryavanshi aims at scoring Shubman Gill-like double century after record-shattering U 19 hundred | CricTracker

Vaibhav Suryavanshi revealed that his main source of inspiration behind his record-shattering knock against England U19 came from the manner in which Shubman Gill batted in the second Test of the ongoing five-match series. For the unversed, Suryavanshi blasted a 52-ball ton against England U19 in the fourth Youth ODI of the series, the fastest in the history of Youth ODIs. 

The Samastipur-born also expressed his desire to have batted longer and not gotten out at 143 on the first ball of the 28th over of the innings. He also shared that his next aim was to bat the entire 50 overs and attain a double-ton.

“I did not know that I had broken the record. I got a lot of inspiration from Shubman Gill when he scored his 100 and 200. He kept at it and took it forward,” shared the opening batter while speaking to BCCI after the game. 

“I could have batted for longer. There were still 20 overs left in the match. I could have played a longer innings. I got out to a shot that I was not able to execute 100 per cent, but I wanted to bat long like him. There is no celebration. I will just be happy that I was able to do well for the team. My next goal will be to hit 200 and play a full 50 overs,” he added.

Speaking of the game, India U19 posted 363/9 in their full quota of 50 overs on the back of centuries from Suryavanshi (143 off 78) and Vihaan Malhotra (129 off 121). Sebastian Morgan (3/54 in 10 overs) and Jack Home (4/63 in 8 overs) were amongst the wickets for the hosts.

The English openers had started off well. They had been successful in forging a century stand between themselves. However, despite a 91-ball 107-run knock from Rocky Flintoff, it was not meant to be as there were hardly any other contributions from the middle-order batters. Naman Pushpak (3/63 in 8.3 overs) secured a three-fer, as the visitors eventually won by 55 runs.
