A man from Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow alleged that he ordered ‘black pepper paneer’ from a restaurant selling Chinese food, but instead got chicken during the month of Sawan. An FIR was registered on Sunday against the restaurant after the incident was brought to the fore.
The man claimed that he and his wife consumed the dish, unaware that it was non-vegetarian food. It was only when they fell severely ill after consuming it that they realised it was chicken, the man said. The restaurant is located in Gomtinagar’s Vibhuti Khand.
He further claimed that when he confronted the restaurant about the mix-up, the restaurant refused to accept the mistake, stressing that the chicken was not delivered by them. The man then filed a complaint against the restaurant, accusing it of gross negligence and hurting their religious sentiments during the sacred month of Sawan.

The complaint was filed by one Manish Tiwari, a private employee residing in Indiranagar’s Pandit Purwa. He said that the order was placed using a popular food delivery app and the restaurant he ordered from is also well-known in the area.
Tiwari said that he trusted the restaurant’s service and thus consumed the food, without checking whether it was paneer or chicken. He immediately raised concerns about the contents of the dish after he and his wife suffered from severe vomiting.
“An FIR has been registered based on the complaint, and the matter is under investigation,” Vibhuti Khand SHO Sunil Singh told Times Of India.
The FIR has been lodged under multiple charges, including BNS sections 125 (a) for acts endangering life or personal safety, 271 for the negligent Spread of infectious diseases, 272 for spreading infection of a disease dangerous to life, and 318 (4) for cheating against the restaurant owner and staff.
Authorities are working to verify the order details, examine food samples, and scrutinise delivery records to ascertain the authenticity of the complaint.
