Video Of Assam Cops Being Frisked By Private Guards Sparks Debate, CM Sarma Reacts: ‘When Polic

A video surfaced online wherein private security guards were seen frisking a few policemen in Assam, sparking a debate. The private security guards belonged to a university chancellor who has been arrested following allegations of forgery and exam malpractices.

The video was shared by an X handle ‘Voice of Assam’. It suggested lawlessness in the state as it said that the visuals were not from Bangladesh, Pakistan, or from films, but from Assam.

As the video gained traction on social media, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reacted to it. He cleared the air fanning the debate over the incident, saying that it is permitted in the law to do so. He shared the post and mentioned the law under which a house owner possesses the right to request that cops be searched before a raid at his residence.

“As per Section 100(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), 1973, when police conduct a search of a residence, the owner has the right to request that the officers be searched first before they proceed with searching the premises,” Sarma said.

The video in question is said to have been recorded at Mahbubul Hoque’s residence, where cops could be seen being frisked by the private security guards employed by the educator before entering.

Hoque Arrested By Assam Police Over Exam Fraud, Fake Degree Scam

Hoque is the Chancellor of University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), and was arrested last month by the Special Task Force of the Assam Police over allegations of forging a caste certificate. He was also accused of alleged involvement in malpractices during the CBSE Class 12 exam.

Hoque was picked up on February 21 from his Guwahati house by a police team in a late-night operation. A case was registered against him in Assam’s Sribhumi.

He had allegedly taken money from students and assured them help in the 30-mark MCQ section to pass the board exam. However, the plan did not work out as chaos ensued at the examination centre after the assistance was not provided, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said in a post on X. A probe was launched based on complaints, following which he was arrested.
