WATCH: Abrar Ahmed refrains from performing his trademark send-off after picking wicket in PSL 2025 clash

Pakistan’s mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed opted not to perform his iconic send-off celebration after dismissing Lahore Qalandars’ Mohammad Naeem in Match No.4 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 in Rawalpindi on Sunday, April 13. Instead of his usual animated gesture, Abrar smiled, raised his hand as if stopping himself, and casually joined his teammates for a high-five.

This reaction came during the third over of Qalandars’ batting when Abrar castled Mohammad Naeem with a slower one that rattled into the stumps. The delivery outfoxed Naeem, who backed away and tried to cut, only to top-edge the ball into the stumps. While many in the crowd waited for his trademark celebration, Abrar refrained.

Notably, in the recent Champions Trophy, Abrar was heavily criticised for his aggressive send-off after dismissing Indian star Shubman Gill. In that clash in Dubai, the leg-spinner bamboozled Gill with a carrom ball that beat the bat and crashed into the stumps. While even Virat Kohli paused mid-innings to applaud Abrar’s brilliance, the bowler’s send-off gesture towards Gill drew criticism from fans and former cricketers alike.

In the ongoing PSL contest, Abrar finished with figures of 2 for 33 in his four overs, claiming another crucial wicket, that of Daryl Mitchell. The Kiwi, who was looking set on 37, came down the track only to be beaten in the flight. Wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis did well by completing a sharp stumping. The 26-year-old was coming into this game with a sensational spell in Quetta Gladiators’ season opener, where he ran through the Peshawar Zalmi lineup with 4 for 42.
