Australian duo of Ashleigh Gardner and Ellyse Perry carried Alyssa Healy on their shoulders at the end of their one-off Test match against India at the WACA in Perth as the 35-year-old skipper bowed out of international cricket. 

Healy captained Australia in her last game to a dominating 10-wicket over India to end her career on a high. At the end of the game, the Australian squad came out on the field and surrounded Healy. Moments after, both Gardner and Perry carried her on their shoulders towards a signage which read ‘Thanks, Midge’ (Healy’s nickname).

In her final game as an international player, Healy scored only 13 in the first innings of the Test match. However, she scored her second-highest ODI tally of 158 from just 98 balls to secure the win in the previous match of the multi-format series. She has also led the Aussies to series victory against India, winning the multi-format affair by 12 points to four. 

Healy has won almost everything there is to win the women’s game. The right-handed batter went on to win two ODI World Cups and six T20 World titles for Australia along with a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Across formats, she went on to score more than 7,000 runs for Australia, including nine hundreds. She hit eight centuries in ODIs and a solitary one in T20Is. Unfortunately for her, she had to end her career with no Test hundreds, with her highest score being 99 in the longest format.

Who replaces Alyssa Healy as Australia captain?

Australia all-rounder Sophie Molineux is set to replace Healy as their all-format captain heading forward. 

“It’s a real honour to be named Australian captain and something I’m incredibly proud of, especially following on from Alyssa, who’s had such a huge impact on this team and the game,” Molineux was quoted as saying on BBC Sport. 

Molineux already captained the Aussies during the T20I leg of the multi-format series against India as Healy did not form part of the squad.
