[WATCH] IND vs WI, 2025: Nitish Kumar Reddy’s diving stunner sends back Tagenarine Chanderpaul

India strengthened their hold on Day 3 of the first Test against West Indies at Ahmedabad, thanks to a breathtaking catch from Nitish Kumar Reddy that sent back Tagenarine Chanderpaul. After declaring overnight at their first-innings total of 448/5, the hosts struck twice in quick succession to push the visitors further onto the back foot.

Earlier, India’s bowlers dismantled West Indies for just 162 in the first innings, with Mohammed Siraj (4/40) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/42) leading from the front. India’s batters then went past the 400-run mark, with three centurions stealing the headlines on Day 2.

KL Rahul (100) scored his first Test century at home since 2016, Dhruv Jurel (125) celebrated a maiden ton, and Ravindra Jadeja (104*) continued his stellar 2025 with another hundred. Their efforts took India to a lead of 286 runs, forcing captain Shubman Gill to declare overnight.

The big moment of the Day 3 morning came when Siraj banged one short at Chanderpaul. The left-hander looked to play a pull shot, middling it well enough to send it flying toward square leg. But Nitish Reddy, who was stationed at that position, flew full length to his left and grabbed the ball cleanly, ensuring it didn’t pop out upon landing.

India pick two wickets on Day 3 morning

Soon after, Ravindra Jadeja struck by removing John Campbell for 14, with Sai Sudharsan completing a catch at short leg. Within the first 10 overs, the Caribbean team’s scorecard read 24/2, still trailing by 262 runs. At stumps on Day 2, India had already pushed the visitors on the back foot with the big total. By the first hour of Day 3, they had further taken over the team with two early wickets. The hosts will be looking to pick the remaining eight wickets and fold the Windies below the 286-run mark.
