Rohit Sharma survived a close DRS call during the 50th match of the IPL 2025 between the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI). It was a controversial event, as the MI batter opted for the DRS just a few milliseconds after the timer of 15 seconds went down. The on-field umpires did not observe it and allowed the star batter to take the review, which revived him.

In the second over of MI’s innings, Rohit hit Fazalhaq Farooqi for a boundary. The left-arm pacer returned well and operated on a good length. The ball nipped back into the right-hander and hit his pads. As the bowling side appealed for the dismissal, the umpire wasted no time in raising his finger.

Rohit Sharma had a bit of a talk with his batting partner, Ryan Rickelton, at the other end. As time was running out, the MI batter decided to review the decision. In the timer, it was visible that the stipulated time of 15 seconds was over just before Sharma opted for the review.

 Rohit Sharma scored his third fifty in the last 4 innings in the IPL 2025

However, the umpires proceeded with the DRS and continued their procedure. As the bowler had not stepped over the line, and there was no bat involved, the third umpire asked for the ball tracking. It was evident that the ball had pitched outside the leg stump, and the third umpire hence asked the on-field umpire to reverse his decision.

The controversial call has led to mixed opinions from the fans on social media. While many felt the star batter did not take the DRS in time, others felt a minute difference in the period might not make a difference. Rohit, however, recovered well after a slow start and registered his third fifty in the last 4 matches.

After scoring 12 runs in his first 13 balls, the star batter accelerated from his end. Rickelton going well at the other end helped him. The duo put on an opening stand of 116 runs in 11.5 overs. Rohit scored 53 runs in 36 balls, which included 9 fours. His knock came at a strike rate of 147.22.
