Women’s World Cup 2025, Match 17 Review: Australia book semi-final spot with 10-wicket win over Bangladesh

Australia continued their dominant run in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 with a convincing 10-wicket victory over Bangladesh in Visakhapatnam. The defending champions became the first team to book a spot in the semi-finals, chasing down a target of 199 inside 25 overs, thanks to brilliant batting from openers Alyssa Healy and Phoebe Litchfield. Earlier, Alana King starred with the ball, dismantling Bangladesh’s middle order.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to bat first. Bangladesh’s innings began with openers Fargana Hoque and Rubya Haider looking to build a partnership. However, Megan Schutt drew first blood in the ninth over, removing Hoque for 8. Rubya Haider, dropped twice on 22, took advantage of her reprieves and scored a solid 44 off 59 balls before falling to Ashleigh Gardner.

Sobhana Mostary once again proved to be Bangladesh’s standout performer, anchoring the innings with a composed 66 off 80 balls, her second half-century of the tournament. Her effort helped Bangladesh post their highest-ever ODI total against Australia, finishing at 198/9.

Meanwhile, for Aussies, Alana King finished with figures of 2 for 18 in her 10 overs, including four maidens. Georgia Wareham also chipped in with 2 for 22, while Annabel Sutherland’s two wickets made her the tournament’s leading wicket-taker.

In the second innings, Australia’s openers Alyssa Healy and Phoebe Litchfield stitched a match-winning stand. From the very first over, the pair found boundaries with ease. Healy continued her scintillating form, smashing an unbeaten 113 off just 77 balls with 20 fours, making it her second century of the tournament. Litchfield complemented her skipper with an unbeaten 84 off 72 balls, hitting 12 fours and a six. The duo brought up their 200-run opening stand in just 24.5 overs, sealing victory with 151 balls to spare.
