‘Won’t Accept Any Govt Post’: CJI BR Gavai Reveals His Post-Retirement Plan

Chief Justice of India BR Gavai said on Saturday that he won’t accept any government post after his retirement from the top post. Gavai spoke of using his time for more personal pursuits and highlighted his work towards making justice more accessible by having lower courts. He said this while speaking at the inauguration of the Late T R Gilda Memorial E-Library in Amravati District and Sessions Court in Maharashtra.

“I have declared this on several occasions in the past that I will not accept any government position after November 24. I will do consultation and arbitration,” CJI Gavai said.

On Friday, Gavai paid tributes at the memorial of his father and former governor of Kerala and Bihar, R S Gavai, in his native village, Darapur, in Amravati. The CJI, along with the family members, attended the death anniversary programme of his father in their village. On Friday, he also laid the foundation stone for a grand gate to be constructed on the way to Darapur village.

The entrance has been named after RS Gavai, who was fondly called Dadasaheb Gavai.

The CJI also spoke pointedly of the need to deliver justice at the people’s doorstep. As head of the judicial infrastructure committee of the top court, he had prepared a model for setting up new taluka and district-level courts, reports news agency PTI.

“It (work on his proposal) is happening, but red tape in courts and government is same,” he added.
