Stuart Broad is all set to take up his first stint as a coach in any capacity since retiring from all forms of cricket after the end of the Ashes 2023. The former English bowler has been named the Consultant of the South African side ahead of their WTC Final 2025 against Australia at the home of cricket, Lord’s.
The final will take place from June 11 to 15 but before that South Africa will play a warm-up match against Zimbabwe from June 3 to 6 at the Arundel Castle Cricket Ground in Sussex.
After the match, the Proteas will practise for the one-off Test against Australia. Broad is likely to join the South African camp on June 9, a couple of days before the start of the match. The star player retired from all forms of cricket after the Ashes 2023, where he helped his side to win the last Test match to end the series with a result of 2-2.
Stuart Broad’s highs in international cricket
The right-arm pacer played 167 matches and claimed 604 wickets for England, which is the second-most for a pacer, behind his teammate James Anderson. He is in the elite league of bowlers to have claimed 600 or more wickets alongside Anderson, Anil Kumble, Shane Warne, and Muttiah Muralitharan.
Broad claimed 153 wickets against Australia alone, the most for a bowler against the defending champions in Tests. His 8/15 against Ireland is one of the best for a bowler post-World War II. Apart from Tests, Broad was good in limited-overs cricket and was a part of England’s first-ever T20 World Cup-winning squad. The pace bowler claimed eight wickets in six innings at a good bowling average of 17.50, an economy rate of 6.72, a strike rate of 15.6, and best bowling figures of 2/21.
Broad was England’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is for a long time till Adil Rashid surpassed him.
