2 Soldiers Dead In IED Blast During Patrol Duty In Jammu’s Akhnoor

Two army personnel were killed and one soldier was injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Jammu’s Akhnoor area on Tuesday. The incident happened when the patrolling party was caught in an explosion, suspected to be planted by terrorists.

The Indian Army confirming the fatalities said that the suspected IED blast took place in Laleali in Akhnoor Sector during a fence patrol at around 3:50 pm, resulting in two deaths. The two fatalities include an Army Captain and a soldier, while a third soldier is said to be critical.

“Suspected Improvised Explosive Device blast reported in Laleali in Akhnoor Sector during a fence patrol resulting in two fatalities.
Own troops are dominating the area and search #operations are underway. White Knight Corps salutes and pays tribute to the supreme sacrifice of two gallant soldiers,” the White Knight Corps of the Indian Army said in a post on X.

The officials said the troops were on patrolling duty when they were hit by the powerful explosion near a forward post in the Bhattal area at around 3:50 pm.

The injured personnel were rushed to a hospital where two of them, including a captain, succumbed to their injuries, officials said, adding that the condition of the other injured soldier is out of danger. The entire area was cordoned off after the explosion.

The incident comes a day after Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and discussed with him various issues related to law and order in the Union Territory. During the meeting, which lasted for 30 minutes, officials said AM Abdullah briefed Shah about the situation in J&K after the two recent incidents — the death of a person by suicide in Kathua in Jammu, and shooting of a truck driver after he did not stop at a checkpoint in Sopore in north Kashmir.
