BSF Intelligence Points To Bangladeshi Outfits’ Hand In Murshidabad Violence

An intelligence input from the Border Security Force (BSF) has now revealed that a Bangladeshi outfit might have been behind the spate of violence in West Bengal. The intelligence report of the BSF blamed the terrorist organisations Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) for the riots.

According to the BSF report, both these organisations are banned. They allegedly conspired to spread violence using their sleeper cells in India.

After Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country in August last year, Jamaat and Ansarullah started rearing their ugly heads. The interim government of Bangladesh, led by Nobel Peace Prize winner Mohammad Yunus, lifted the ban on both JMB and ABT. The leaders of both organisations were released from jail.

Both Jamaat and Ansarullah have been involved in anti-India activities. India banned both organisations by declaring them as terrorist outfits. Sheikh Hasina had also banned the outfits.

How Jamaat And Ansarullah Fuelled Violence In West Bengal

The report, blaming Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and Ansarullah Bangla Team for the unrest, said that the two outfits had been instigating local youths for quite sometime. The members of the outfits made several video calls to the youths living along the border areas of Murshidabad. These youths were aged between 12 and 25 years.

After the violence spread in Murshidabad and other areas on the orders of the Kolkata High Court, the Home Ministry deployed central paramilitary forces like BSF and CRPF in West Bengal. Nine companies of BSF and six companies of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been deployed in the violence-affected areas. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan called the Home Secretary and DGP of Bengal and assured them of all possible help to normalise the situation.

BSF Eastern Command Chief Takes Stock Of Situation

Additional DG of BSF’s Eastern Command Ravi Gandhi has been personally taking stock of the situation in Murshidabad since Monday. The result of the deployment of central police forces is that the violence has reduced. In Murshidabad, local people are seen expressing gratitude to the BSF.

When the BSF assessed the violence-hit areas, it found that the opposition to the Waqf law has links with Bangladesh. In the BSF’s intelligence report, it has been said that the fundamentalist organizations of Bangladesh are involved in instigating the anti-Waqf law movement in Murshidabad, West Bengal with the help of their sleeper cells.
