ENG vs IND 2026: Toss for 5th T20I delayed as Indian team gets stuck in traffic | CricTracker

The toss for the fifth T20I between England and India in the ongoing series was delayed due to the weird reason of the Indian team getting stuck in traffic. According to live visuals, the Indian team entered the dressing room around 6:37 PM (Indian Standard Time), much after the scheduled toss time of 6:30 PM at the Rose Bowl, Southampton, on Saturday, July 11.

It took players a bit of time, as captain Shreyas Iyer finally arrived near the pitch alongside his English counterpart Harry Brook to get the toss underway. However, there was a thirty-minute delay caused by the traffic in making sure that the series finale went underway.

The official broadcaster confirmed that the toss would take place at 7:15 PM IST, whereas the match would commence fifteen minutes after the new toss time.

As it eventually happened, the Indians won the toss and bowled first, making two changes to their line-up, as Sanju Samson and Suryansh Shedge came into the XI, while Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Washington Sundar had to sit out.

“We are going to bowl first. The wicket won’t change much. We have seen everything in this series, we are up for the challenge. I just the players have a solid mindset, rather than sulking. Need to be in the moment, and stop thinking about what has happened. We have two changes. Shedge comes in for Washington, Sanju comes in for Sooryavanshi,” Iyer said at the toss.

“If we win today we go number 1, that’s on the back of my mind. He [Phil Salt] is a valuable player for us,” Brook said, while also confirming a change with Rehan Ahmed sitting out in place of Liam Dawson.

How many times has traffic led to a delay in match start?

The latest incident beyond the current match took place in June 2025, once again in England, as English cricketers used bicycles to arrive at the ground while the touring West Indies side’s team bus was delayed in traffic in London for the ODI match.
