AAP MLAs were stopped from entering the Delhi Assembly on Thursday. Leader Of Opposition Atishi accused the BJP of crossing the limits of “dictatorship” after coming to power.
“Aam Aadmi Party MLAs were suspended from the House for three days for raising slogans of ‘Jai Bhim’. And today “AAP” MLAs are not even being allowed to enter the Vidhan Sabha premises. This has never happened in the history of Delhi Legislative Assembly that elected MLAs are not being allowed to enter the Assembly premises,” she wrote in a post on X.
Twenty-one AAP MLAs, including Atishi and Gopal Rai, were marshalled out and suspended for three days on Tuesday as they launched a protest in the Delhi Assembly before the CAG report was tabled on the now-scrapped 2022-21 liquor policy.
What Did The CAG Report Say?
As per the ‘Performance Audit on Regulation and Supply of Liquor in Delhi’ report tabled by CM Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government suffered cumulative losses of over Rs 2,000 crore due to the policy.
The report has also flagged violations in the process of issuing licences. It has pointed out that recommendations of an expert panel, formed to suggest changes for the formation of the policy, were ignored by then deputy chief minister and excise minister Manish Sisodia.
The alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the policy had snowballed into a political punching bag used by the BJP after Lt Governor V K Saxena recommended a CBI probe in July 2022. The report has highlighted several issues in the policy over which former CM Arvind Kejriwal and Sisodia were arrested.
