Rekha Gupta News: Delhi got its ninth Chief Minister on Thursday, February 8, when Rekha Gupta took the oath of office at the Ramlila Maidan. CM Rekha Gupta is also the fourth Chief Minister of Delhi from the BJP as well as the Union Territory’s fourth woman CM.

Before Gupta, Brahm Prakash Yadav, Gurmukh Nihal Singh, Madan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma, Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, Arvind Kejriwal, and Atishi served as Delhi’s Chief Ministers. While Yadav, Singh, and Dikshit were from Congress, Kejriwal and Atishi were from the AAP. Khurana, Verma, and Swaraj were from the BJP. Notably, only Dikshit completed three full terms in office while Kejriwal could complete only one full term. None of the others could stay in office for five years.

On Thursday, she took oath in a huge function attended by PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the Chief Ministers of other BJP-ruled states.

Who Is Rekha Gupta, Delhi’s New CM?

Rekha Gupta is a first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh and a seasoned municipal councillor. She is currently the only woman Chief Minister in a BJP-governed state or Union Territory.

Born in Haryana’s Jind district, the 50-year-old leader moved to Delhi with her family at the age of two. Her father was employed with the State Bank of India.

Gupta’s political journey began during her college years when she joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the RSS, while studying at Daulat Ram College in 1993. She held leadership positions in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU), serving as general secretary from 1995 to 1996 and later as president from 1996 to 1997. She has earned a commerce degree along with a Master’s degree in management and arts from the University of Delhi.
