ENG vs IND 2025: Twitter Reactions – Unstoppable Joe Root brings up 38th Test century

ENG vs IND 2025: Twitter Reactions – Unstoppable Joe Root brings up 38th Test century

The legend of Joe Root grew stronger on Friday, July 25, when he slammed his 38th Test century on Day 2 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester, in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.

The former England captain survived a tricky little phase of play at the back end of Day 1 as he scored 11 runs off 27 balls. In the eighth over of Day 2, Root survived a run-out chance when he was batting on 22. Some balls kept low, and the Indian bowlers also came up with better lines and lengths on Day 2 compared to the opening day of the Test match. However, Root became an embodiment of calmness and composure, with his flawless technique making life difficult for the opposition bowlers.

Root went past Rahul Dravid and Jacques Kallis’ run tally in Test cricket in the first session to become the third-highest run scorer in the longest format. In the 69th over, Root hit a reverse sweep off Washington Sundar to get to 49 and off the following delivery, he took a single to bring up his half-century off 99 balls.

However, Root didn’t rest on his laurels as he took his score to 63 off 115 balls before the umpires called the players in for Lunch. Ollie Pope, who was the other overnight batter, was dismissed in the third over after the break. Harry Brook also departed cheaply. However, Root continued thwarting the Indian bowlers and keeping the scoreboard moving. He negotiated a probing spell from Washington Sundar.

In the fourth over after the drinks break, Root hit Anshul Kamboj for a boundary, glancing the debutant towards the fine leg fence to bring up his 38th Test century. He got to the fantastic landmark in just 177 balls. He equalled Kumar Sangakkara’s tally of centuries and is now only behind Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, and Sachin Tendulkar.

Take a look at how ‘X’ users reacted to Joe Root’s 38th Test century:

In future people will always consider Joe Root a better test batter than Steve Smith based on just the raw stats. It’s only the real viewers of the game who will tell you who was actually better!
