An 18-year-old engineering student on Wednesday died by suicide after failing to clear the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025 in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur. She left a suicide note for her parents, apologising for failing to clear the exam and “not fulfilling their dreams”.
A day before the incident, the results for the competitive exam for engineering admissions were declared and Aditi Mishra flunked. Devastated by the outcome, she hanged herself to death.
Aditi Mishra was a student of Momentum Coaching Center, located in Betiahata of Cantt police station area in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur. She was preparing for JEE for two years and shared a room with another girl at the Satyadeep Girls Hostel.
After failing the JEE exam, Mishra spoke to her parents on Wednesday morning and asked her father to recharge her mobile. She also asked him to not inform anyone about her exam results. He recalled reassuring her and encouraging her to prepare for the next attempt, India Today reported.
The teenager was reportedly feeling dejected due to the failure and her roommate had also gone out at the same time. When her roommate returned and knocked on the door, Mishra did not respond. The girl then peeped inside the room only to find Mishra hanging from a noose made of a stole. The roommate then rushed to inform the hostel warden, who then informed the police, NDTV reported.
Upon investigation, Police recovered a suicide note that read: “Sorry mummy papa, forgive me… I could not do it… this was the end of our relationship… you guys don’t cry… you guys gave me a lot of love. I could not fulfill your dreams… you guys please take care of Choti… she will definitely fulfill your dreams. Your beloved daughter- Aditi.”
The girl’s parents were informed about the drastic step taken by their daughter. The teenager’s body has been sent for postmortem. Superintendent of Police (City) Abhinav Tyagi said the real cause of death will be known only after the postmortem, NDTV reported.
