Bharat Kapoor Dies At 80 In Mumbai; Avtar Gill, Rakesh Bedi And Others Attend Funeral

Veteran actor Bharat Kapoor passed away on Monday at the age of 80. He breathed his last around 3:30 pm at Sion Hospital. His last rites were performed later in the evening in the presence of family members and close friends, including fellow actors Avtar Gill and Rakesh Bedi.

“I just came from the cremation, it was done at 6:30 pm. He died at 3 pm today in Sion Hospital, Mumbai. He was not feeling well for the last three days. His organs started failing,” Avtar Gill was quoted by India Today as saying.

He told Screen that Kapoor had not been keeping well for the past three days. “When his son called me, he shared that Bharat had not been keeping well for the past three days. He was at home only. Before that, he was in the hospital.”

“…Rakesh Bedi, director Ramesh Kumar, actor Kuldeep Singh, and a few other people from our theatre group were there. His prayer meeting is on April 30 from 5 to 7 pm at his house,” he added.  

Who Was Bharat Kapoor?

Bharat Kapoor started his career in the 1970s and went on to act in several films and TV shows. His early work included drama Noorie and the action-packed Ram Balram, followed by a presence in major 1980s hits like Love Story, Bazaar, and Ghulami.

Kapoor’s ability to fit into diverse genres allowed him to work alongside the industry’s biggest stars in high-profile projects such as Aakhree Raasta, Satyamev Jayate, and Swarg. Into the 1990s, he maintained his relevance through significant appearances in films like Khuda Gawah and Rang, eventually transitioning into the 2000s with Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities.

Kapoor was a familiar face in a wide variety of TV shows, including Campus and Chunauti, as well as Parampara, Amanat, and Saans. His extensive credits also included popular titles like Tara, Rahat, and Kahani Chandrakanta Ki.
