Pakistan Cricket Board chair Mohsin Naqvi has outlined potential structural changes to the country’s cricketing system, which has often come under scrutiny for their performances in different formats.
Naqvi, who serves as the Interior Minister of the country, stated to the media in Lahore that he is set to induct a few more former players into his advisory panel, which already consists of three members. Naqvi believes that having more experienced minds with extensive knowledge of the game would aid in the decision-making process.
“I am meeting some former players in this regard, as I believe that cricket-related matters should be decided by those with extensive knowledge of the game. I want these cricket minds to take calls on cricketing matters pertaining to the national teams, cricket issues and domestic cricket,” said Naqvi, as reported by NDTV.
As further reported, former Pakistan captains Misbah-ul-Haq and Sarfaraz Ahmed are among his advisors, and it is believed that former skippers Younis Khan and Mohammad Hafeez have also been approached to be included in this advisory panel.
The PCB chief stated that he is against interfering in cricketing matters and leaves that to the experts. He revealed that contacts have been made with multiple cricketers, and having multiple people on the board ensures better decisions, allowing him to trust their judgment.
“We are in contact with many cricketers. When there are six or seven people instead of three, better decisions will naturally be made. I can offer suggestions, but there will be occasions when they are not followed. I have to trust them,” he said.
Naqvi further added that the board is working on a new contract structure for the players, which would make it a mandate to participate in domestic cricket across all formats.
“We have been working on the new contracts format, and everyone agrees that all players have to participate in domestic cricket across all formats,” he added.
Pakistan were whitewashed by Bangladesh in a two-match away Test series in Mya, which was followed by a 2-1 win in an ODI series at home against Australia.
