India next ODI match: Date, venue and opponent

India‘s next ODI assignment will be a three-match home series against the West Indies, beginning on September 27, 2026, at Thiruvananthapuram. The series will mark India’s return to 50-over cricket after a disappointing tour of England, where they suffered a 3-0 ODI series defeat.

The Men in Blue endured a difficult campaign in the United Kingdom, losing the T20I series against Ireland, the five-match T20I series against England, and the three-match ODI series against the hosts. It marked a significant dip in form for the side after an impressive run earlier in the year, which included winning the 2026 T20 World Cup, sweeping Afghanistan 3-0 in an ODI series, and clinching the one-off Test against the same opposition.

Following the setbacks in England, the Indian team management and coaching staff have come under scrutiny, with the focus now shifting towards rebuilding the squad and regaining momentum. Before returning to ODI cricket, India will tour Zimbabwe for a three-match T20I series, followed by a two-match Test series in Sri Lanka as part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27.

The ODI series against the West Indies will also mark the return of senior stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both of whom have been rested following the England tour. With the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup fast approaching, every ODI will be crucial in India’s preparations, and the experienced duo will once again be at the centre of attention.

Despite the series defeat in England, both Rohit and Kohli delivered encouraging individual performances. Kohli registered two half-centuries, while Rohit overcame a slow start to the series by producing a magnificent century at Lord’s, becoming the first Indian batter to score an ODI hundred at the iconic venue.

After the West Indies series, India will continue their preparations for the World Cup with a five-match ODI series against New Zealand, beginning on November 4 in Auckland. With limited ODI fixtures left before the global event, India will be keen to make the most of every opportunity and build a settled combination ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
